New appointment to help grow Degani brand

The Melbourne-based cafe chain Degani has taken another important step in its national expansion plan with the appointment of franchise development manager Tanya Kanaris.

Degani operates 70 cafes, mainly in Melbourne metro areas, and plans to add another 60 outlets over the next two years with a particular focus on Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia.

“Brisbane is ready for a new brand to make its mark on the cafe scene, and we’d certainly like to position Degani as the business to shake things up,” Kanaris said.

Kanaris has notched up years of experience in franchise development with prominent brands including Ray White, Harcourts and The Coffee Club Group.

“I would like to see Degani’s franchise model become an example of world’s best practice,” Kanaris said. “We are creating an innovative, flexible approach to franchising and ultimately I believe that companies who don’t move towards that model will find it hard to survive in an increasingly competitive market.

“We are steering clear of the cookie-cutter mentality where all stores look and feel the same, serve the same food and sell the same products.

“Degani gives franchisees the opportunity to make their own choices and be an active participant in the direction of their store. There is a strong focus on collaboration and partnership to ensure the franchisee is getting what they want out of the business.

“Franchisees want a partner, not a big brother, and striking that balance is crucial for the success of the franchise model. At Degani we are putting a lot of time into getting it right,” Kanaris explained.
