MYO embraces fair trade

Sarah Stowe

DIY sandwich and salad franchise, MYO Australia, has joined forces with Phillip Di Bella’s Crop to Cup program to ensure fair returns for coffee industry workers whenever an MYO coffee is sold.

MYO Australia will now use certified Crop to Cup coffee in all stores, with beans sourced ethically from farmers in remote growing regions.

“Many coffee farmers don’t have access to basic healthcare like vaccinations, pre-natal care and dental care or educational opportunities for their children,” said MYO managing director, John Smith. “The Crop to Cup program directly addresses these issues and aims to strengthen the relationship between coffee growers and buyers such as MYO.”

A portion of money from MYO coffee goes toward providing healthcare plans and moving assistance to coffee workers and their families and scholarship assistance to children of coffee workers.

According to Smith, Crop to Cup beans are also certified against child labour.

“Plus our coffee tastes great thanks to our custom blend which has been created exclusively for MYO stores. We’re very proud to be part of this program and to share our great tasting, ethically farmed coffee with our customers,” he said.
