Mrs Fields claims bronze for new blend

Coffee and cookie franchise, Mrs Fields, has claimed a bronze medal at the annual CSR Sugar Golden Bean roaster competition despite making major changes to its coffee program last year.

During the past 12 months, Mrs Fields broke its relationship with Melbourne-based Daily Roast and moved coffee roasting in-house to its own facility in Sydney. It also employed the help of World Champion barista Justin Metcalf to monitor the franchise’s coffee offering with the help of its master coffee roaster Leigh Collien and barista coach Yvette Schroeder.

More training

“We also implemented more training for our baristas in-store, and are reaping the rewards of our Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee training programs, based on the national training framework,” managing director of Mrs Fields Australia, Andrew Benefield said.

At the competition, which took place in December last year, the Mrs Fields blend claimed a bronze medal in the competitive Milk Based Coffee (franchise chain) category.

“Coffee is one of the best accompaniments to our range of sweet treats. Australians are some of the most sophisticated coffee consumers in the world, so we are committed to providing them with the best coffee possible,” said Benefield, who earlier in 2011 was awarded the International Master Franchisee of the Year award.

The bronze medal win finished off an exciting year for Mrs Fields in Australia, which earlier in 2011 presented its blend at the Mrs Fields conference in Las Vegas, resulting in contracts to supply to new markets in Pakistan and China. The franchise also plans to export to more countries this year as the brand expands globally.

The franchise also retained its spot in the Topfranchise survey of franchisee satisfaction.
