How to make your team meetings count

Sarah Stowe

How often does your business hold a team meeeting? We’re not talking operational get-togethers but less regular meetings that have a helicopter view.

Team meetings can make a huge difference in your business – and in your franchisees’ businesses.

Here Kate Groom and Peter Knight, the founders of SmartFranchise, explain why these team gatherings are important – and how to make the most of them.

Team meetings work well on a monthly basis and have a big picture focus.

“For example, they can include an update for all staff on progress against the business plan and any significant achievements during the month. They can be a great way to help team members stay engaged and interested in the business – even if you’re a small firm.”

This strategy works equally well for franchisees in your network too.

Here are three areas from SmartFranchise to include in your team meeting:

1. Reporting

Report business KPIs so everyone can see progress against your business plan, and the contribution they have made.

2. Skills development

Encourage team members to deliver presentations. This is a great way to help them develop their skills and confidence.

3. Celebration

Birthdays, anniversaries, exam results, customer feedback… make sure you acknowledge and celebrate achievements and milestones. This increases team engagement with the business.

“Remember … it’s not about you doing all the talking. Having your team involved helps them blossom as you encourage their involvement at this higher level.”
