Hotondo Homes recognised its top performing franchisees during an awards gala dinner in Hobart on September 22, where for the first time a Tasmanian franchisee took out its most pretigious accolade.

The gala dinner, which formed part of the building franchises annual national conference, saw Launceston-based franchisee John Dykman take out the 2013 Franchisee of the Year award.

Managing director Michael Renwick was incredibly pleased to present the award to such a well-deserving franchisee.

“It is an absolute privilege to hand out this national award to a builder who is not only dedicated to continuous growth and improvement, but a builder who is totally engaged with our brand,” he said.

Dykman said he was honoured to receive the prestigious award, and recognised the contributions of his dedicated staff and the team at head office.

“I can put it down to the good crew we have working for us and I pass on my thanks to them tonight. I also want to acknowledge the support we’ve received from the Support Office and Marketing along the way.

“It is nice to be honoured for our hard work. We have done it tough in the past and we are proud to be moving forward,” he added.

Dykman has won a number of other awards since he joined the brand in August 2000, including the 2012 Tasmanian Franchisee of the Year and HIA Display Home of the Year for his Whitsunday 220 home in Riverside.

Renwick said the national and state awards are based on a number of factors, some of them less obvious than others.

These include turnover, market share, growth, use of preferred suppliers, training attendance, innovation, quality workmanship, and the franchisee’s commitment to Hotondo Homes.

“Everyone is capable of change and our awards are a good chance for us to recognise achievements of the best franchisees amongst their peers,” he said.

Colin Duncan from Lithgow and Penrith in NSW was named NSW Franchisee of the Year, and he took out the Biggest Sales Growth award for the 2012/2013 financial year.

Renwick applauded Duncan for his ability to operate a flourishing business is difficult times. “Increasing building numbers is such a great achievement, especially in such a volatile industry,” he said.

The National Display Home of the Year and Volume Builder of the Year awards went to Murray Reilly of Caloundra.

The brand’s Ballarat based franchisees won the Most Improved – New Franchise gong, along with the Local Area Marketing Campaign of the Year award for their shopfront launch.

Other award winners include:

  • Victorian Franchisee of the Year – Horsham
  • South Australian Franchisee of the Year – Riverland
