Gloria Jean’s Coffees is facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit after its Australian master franchisee, Jireh International, was accused of breaking a joint venture agreement with Western Export Services, a small coffee supplier.

According to Fairfax, Jireh International is being sued for $56 million in unpaid commissions and damages.

The company has launched a cross-claim saying that the 1996 agreement with Western Export Services was invalid.

A statement issued by Jireh International reads; “In regards to the matter currently before the Supreme Court, the Defendant, Jireh International, is vigorously defending the matter and denies the allegations contained in the claim.”

The case begins today and is expected to continue for three weeks.
