Gloria Jean’s Coffees has launched this year’s Cappuccino for a Cause event with former Australian cricketer Nathan Bracken, Channel 7 tv presenter Karen Ledbury and ex-surfer and model Laura Andon headlining the fundraising initiative for the children’s charity, Variety.

On Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October Gloria Jean’s coffee houses across Australia will donate to Variety 50 cents from every cappuccino sold.

Nathan Bracken, who attended the launch with his wife Haley, said “During the final weekend cappuccino drinkers across Australia can buy a cup of their favourite coffee and contribute to this worthy cause. Many coffee houses will also be creating a family day on the Saturday with special activities for the kids, and playing host to local celebrities who are also keen to support Variety.”

Karen Ledbury told Franchising why she was keen to support the cause. “I’ve got three boys who are really healthy. But for some parents with children with disabilities it’s good to know there are people who have their backs; offering them support is what it’s all about.”

David Small, chief executive of Variety, said this is the first time the charity has been linked to the coffee franchise. “Variety runs on the smell of an oily rag, so with an initiative like this we’re raising money but also raising awareness. To have this partnership is very special.”

The children’s not-for-profit organisation provides special items and equipment for children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have special needs.

Gloria Jean’s hopes to raise $150,000 to buy three Sunshine Coaches and two Liberty swings, which are custom-built swing-sets designed for children in wheelchairs.

Anna Hutchins from Gloria Jean’s global foundation With Heart, said this year’s target is an increase on the Cappuccino for a Cause total last year which raised $115,000 for children’s hospitals. She said the tie-up with the children’s charity fits well with the foundation’s mission to build and change lives.

“Our intention is to continue the partnership. We will be supporting the Variety Christmas parties in each state.”

Customers can also contribute by donating in With Heart collection boxes, purchasing Gloria Jean’s Coffees Travel Cups and Shortbread Heart Cookies throughout October.
