Coffee franchise chain Gloria Jean’s has announced its Australian Barista Champion for 2012 is Nathan Trebbin from Castletown, Queensland.

The championship showcased the best of the best in barista skills, with eight finalists serving up four espressos, four lattes and four signature beverages to the panel of judges.

Kane Bodiam from United Supplies was one of the judges. He said “Nathan showed us great technique and skill but it was his passion and enthusiasm for coffee that truly shone through.

“Nathan’s Spiced Date Espresso showcased creativity, innovation and a curiosity for coffee – it had the perfect balance of sweetness,” Bodiam added.

As the winner, Nathan [pictured] receives a trip to Hawaii to enjoy the Kona coffee festival, and goes through to represent Australia in the Gloria Jean’s Coffees International Barista Championship in India this October.
