Funland venture brings a dream to business reality

Sarah Stowe

Who hasn’t dreamed of skipping down the yellow brick road with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion as they go off to see the Wizard?

Thanks to a couple’s childhood obsession with this magical story, kids in the Macarthur region of Sydney have been enjoying all the magic of The Wizard of Oz in a unique children’s interactive and party venue that pays tribute to Frank Baum’s wacky world.

It was a business idea that turned dreams into reality: The Wizard of Oz Funland entertainment venue started sparking kids’ imaginations in 2008, the culmination of Brian and Christerine Laul’s award-winning work with children over 35 years. Their vision was to create magical experiences for children filled with hope and happiness in a venue where minds can develop, imaginations run riot and a family could have fun together.

OZ FUNLAND as it is now, recognises that children demand much more than passive play in today’s interactive world. So it engages our youngest dreamers on a fun-filled journey that includes putt putt golf, sound and light shows, a futuristic glow-in-the-dark Oz Balladrome, playmaze, jumping castle and face painting.  A craft space allows children to create their most fanciful notions; a stage-set is the perfect backdrop for a live show; birthday parties and school events are sought after specialities.

And the grown-ups aren’t forgotten – they browse the quirky Oz memorabilia on display while unwinding at the Rainbow CafŽ.

The number of families is expected to grow more than 46% in Australia by 2036, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and where there are children, there will be a never-ending demand for play and entertainment.

Brian and Christerine want to expand this magical world into new locations, at the same time offering viable business opportunities for people who share their passion for community involvement, love working with children and nurturing their creativity, and will go the extra mile to deliver an unforgettable customer experience.

On offer is a business model destined for growth with multiple streams of income: daily entry fees, birthday parties, private hire, educational excursions, shows, workshops and special events with an option of evening classes catering to aspiring little singers, dancers and actors.

Franchisees investing in the business will receive ongoing support including advice from a team of professionals including staff trainers, event managers, financial planners and caterers.

And to get you started, possible business locations will be extensively researched to ensure the local demographics fit with the business model that is planned around a five day week.

It’s the perfect combination of business, play and community contribution.

Are you ready to join this unforgettable journey and shape your own future?
