From the RFG shopping list to shipping container coffee: farewell 2014

What a year! Forget the supermarket dash, RFG has been hurtling towards 2015 scooping up as many systems as it can…somehow La Porchetta slipped out of the trolley.

We’ve developed a taste for different cuisines, with the Asian sector making its mark in franchising and noodles are getting some competition from bings, Vietnamese rolls and naan bread.

So have we lost our love of pies? Probably not, but unfortunately Pie Face franchisees are wondering if there will be anything in Santa’s sack for them this Christmas.

The pizza wars continue with the big brands racing to ever-greater value offers for customers, with varying levels of success.

Anyone drop a shipping container at the airport? Creative recycling brings coffee and cake to a container near you.

Griffith Uni has put out its latest report showing the sector is now worth $144 billion (when you count the vehicle and fuel businesses) that’s an extra $13 billion from 2012. We’ve had shrinkage among the franchisor community, growth among systems and retail turning out to be the surprise star performer.

And we have the new Code. We can expect some heartache on that front as franchisors who need to adjust their systems to suit play catch up but let’s hope it’s just a minority.
