Food franchises seek WA growth

Two food franchises at the Perth Franchising Expo are looking for expansion in the local and interstate markets.

A well-known Indian brasserie chain in Perth, Maya Masala, has plans to expand from the current 15 outlets around the city.

Thirteen outlets are franchised now and the flagship restaurant serving first class Indian food in a relaxed atmosphere is centrally located in Northbridge.

With a philosophy of presenting Indian cuisine cooked by professional Indian chefs to a high standard Maya Masala serves dishes from the north and south of India, including vindaloo, samosas and tandoori.

The turn key franchise, priced from $200,000, offers low cost of goods, minimal preparation and cooking, a loyalty card for local area marketing, and full support and training.

Once the network is extended in WA there will be opportunities for interstate franchises explained Tony Maddock of Franchise Selection, which is handling franchise enquiries.

SarpinoÕs Pizzeria, a Canadian brand with eight WA outlets and two in Victoria, is looking for franchisees for its food court and shopping mall model with a starting price of $250,000 for set up.

Australian master franchisee and managing director GK Soh told Franchising “WeÕre not trying to compete with Dominos. We sell gourmet pizzas, weÕre very generous with our toppings, and donÕt compete on price.

“Now we have enough visibility and enough history for franchisees to taste and see what we do. WeÕre looking to grow in WA and grow in the eastern states.”

In a market dominated by a few brands, the need to get high exposure and high traffic for the new name in the pizza line-up directed Soh to shopping centres, even though the costs of leasing and fit out would be high, he explained.

And a focus on swift service also gives Sarpinos a point of difference. “Customers eat with their eyes. We decided there should be no waiting, so we display all the pizza choices. From choice to taking the money should take 20 seconds,” Soh said.

The latest store opens in Armadale in June.
