Dymocks keeps on e-trail with web publishing launch

Book retailer Dymocks has taken its innovative web-based publishing service live, launching the D Publishing model through www.dpublishing.com.

Dymocks general manager of eCommerce, Michael Allara, said “WeÕre incredibly excited to reveal D Publishing. Unlike the conventional publishing model, D Publishing is driven by the author. The author can make decisions about book content, cover, distribution and printing via our website for a far lower cost than a traditional custom or vanity publishing house would charge.

“Authors who publish with D Publishing will find we do not approve or reject authors based on perceived literary merit or commercial viability of their work — the author determines whether they are good enough to be published.”

Books and eBooks published through D Publishing will be available for purchase on the Dymocks website. Books will also be presented to Dymocks bookshops nationally and will have the potential to be stocked and sold in-store.

“D Publishing aims to be relatively simple, and takes out the complexities of book production, publishing, commercial terms and distribution. “The service will see a manuscript turn into a published work within a few hours and the physical book itself can be produced within a week and a half,” said Allara.

Dymocks’ outgoing CEO, Don Grover, has driven the brand’s move beyond bricks and mortar retailing to embrace web-based services such as an Android app, a link with Google e-books and now e-publishing.
