Customer details hacked at Aussie Farmers Direct

Aussie Farmers Direct has been hacked. The food delivery franchise has reportedly been targeted by international hackers in an attempt to extort a six-figure sum.

Personal details of more than 5000 existing and former customers were posted online. The hackers published names, addresses, phone numbers and emails but had no access to financial information.

Aussie Farmers Direct was able to get the details removed from an external website.

The company said in a statement: “Aussie Farmers Direct takes the issue of customer data privacy very seriously and we are conducting a thorough investigation.”

The franchisor reassured customers that store credit card numbers are not stored, but it has contacted its bank as a precautionary measure.

Inside Retail reports that the Australian Federal Police had been contacted by Aussie Farmers Direct but will not be investigating the matter. The AFP advised the company to update its virus protection.
