WHS draft regulations released for public comment
A draft of the WHS Regulations were released for public comment in Decmber 2010 and have been created to provide detailed requirements about the minimisation of risks as well as information on licensing and registration.
The electrical safety industry are highlighted as testing and tagging regulations now need to be documented for all States as some States documentation requirements were previously unlegislated. New legislation should provide some clarity for businesses.
New regulations stipulate that all equipment used in a hostile operating environment need to be tested and tagged.
While this may seem to eliminate the need for tag and testing in offices, some items in an office do still need to be tested. Some areas in an office environment are hostile and dangerous items may be brought into non-hostile areas by unsuspecting employees.
Employers who do not tag and test equipment in line with AS/NZS 3760 should have a risk assessment every 5 years to ensure electrical safety and educate employees on appliance policies and procedures.
