The Le Cornu Furniture franchise’s interesting success story in the field of furniture decoration
Within 2 years, the retail business experienced skyrocketing demand and Clarke Street was again insufficient. Then, the decorator franchise purchased the original 9-acre Chrysler car assembly plant at Keswick and converted it into the worlds largest “full-or-self-service furniture” warehouse and showroom. The showroom is air-conditioned and has a restaurant, a crèche along with 200 fully decorated “room-size furniture displays.”
In 1966, the decorator franchise had a store open in Darwin, but it was destroyed during Cyclone Tracy. The furniture store was re-opened in McMinn Street and later achieved the contract of furnishing Jabirus, a mining town in the territory.
The Keswick site was redeveloped in 1988 once more. The display area had another 60,000 square feet added to it. Another store was bought at Mile End and this store was twice as big as the one in North Adelaide. Eventually, the North Adelaide store was moved, to Keswick and the decorator franchise now operates a huge store that totals 17 acres. 30.11.2007
