The Fritz Gelato story begins in Switzerland
Fritz Gelato was founded by Andrea Fritz who had formulated his own gelato and opened the first store in Poschivao, Switzerland 1910.
Poschivao is located near the shores of a picturesque lake, which represented the fusion of German and Italian and gourmet food culture of the area. Summer time saw many tourists and locals visiting Andrea’s gelato store, which quickly became known as “Fritz Gelato”.
After the devastating impacts of the war, Fritz and his family migrated to Australia in 1952. Fritz then opened the first Fritz Gelato store in Australia’s South Melbourne Market.
Fritz Gelato’s range of gelato and dessert products has won a range of awards including ‘Australia’s Best Gelato’ in 2004 by Vogue Entertaining & Travel Magazine and ‘The Foodies Guide Five Best Gelato in Victoria” for 2006. Their cinnamon and ginger tiramisu won a silver at the 2005 Royal Melbourne Diary Produce Awards but got a gold for their cinnamon donut in 2006.
The award winning Fritz Gelato now has several ice cream franchises cross Melbourne and continue to offer franchise opportunities Australian-wide for individuals that want to bring their passion for gelato to Sydney, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide.
