Leading supplier of retaining wall systems, Amber cites the introduction of beautiful hand-hewn stone-look walls that can be successfully installed by the most ranked amateur in less than a weekend as the key to the concept’s success.
Designed to be erected to a maximum height of almost one metre (972mm), depending on soil conditions, these retaining walls are being used to separate and highlight entertaining and BBQ areas, paths, garden beds and hedges, boundaries and fence lines or create and differentiate varying levels. The walling systems can also be used to create steps, planter boxes, corners and curving walls. Other options, easily created by the DIYer, include the choice of vertical or sloping walls and double sided walls.
A definite preference for natural stone-look finishes and larger sized blocks has steered consumers towards two distinctive designs – Heathstone Grand and Wallstone Grande – according to Amber. The former has block sizes of 162mm(h) x 440mm (w) x 280mm (d) in a choice of four rough-hewn natural stone-like finishes – Charcoal, Honeycomb, Light Sand and Nougat.
Wallstone Grande meanwhile, measures 150mm (h) x 300mm (w) x 220mm (d) and comes in four stone colours in a split-face finish – Bondi Blend, Oatmeal, Sunstone and Charcoal. Both designs have a full complement of accessories including capping stones, steptreads, bullnoses and corner blocks. Building either of these walls involves a dry-stacking, mortarless system which is extremely straightforward and clearly detailed in the step-bystep installation guide supplied by Amber.
Several finishes of dry-stacked, mortarless retaining walls are displayed at all Amber stores, located throughout NSW, ACT and QLD. Prices range from about $1.85 per block for Sedona Stone to $18.75 per block for Pyrmont. Heathstone Grand retails for about $12.50 a block.
