Plate 4 Plate initiative aims to tackle world hunger with each meal bought at Zambrero Mexican franchises
Zambrero Fresh Mex Grill has launched an initiative whereby every time a customer purchases a plate of food at any of the company's Mexican franchises, a plate of food will be provided to someone in need.
Titled Plate 4 Plate, the initiative is one of the projects undertaken by Zambrero's own philanthropic organisation, the Emagine Foundation.
Created in 2006, Emagine was originally founded to provide education to children in the developing world, but has since broadened to include disease eradication in the Northern Territory, and now with Plate 4 Plate, to providing a direct and sustainable way to put a dent in world hunger.
As Zambrero notes, global hunger now afflicts nearly a billion people worldwide, though severe acute malnutrition is the more immediate killer, threatening the lives of 19 million children globally.
To determine where to focus its food distribution efforts, Zambrero and the Emagine Foundation draw on distribution partner Action Against Hunger's technical expertise to determine areas of the most immediate need.
Currently, the initiative is supporting a Therapeutic Feeding Centre located in Liberia, Africa, with plans to evaluate further potential donation centres in the future.
