Piper Alderman was formed in 1988 when well known legal services firms Piper Bakewell & Piper merged with Alderman forming one of Adelaide’s largest law firms. Harry Alderman founded Aldermans in 1928 which at the time of merger concentrated on commercial law and insurance and employed approximately 70 people including partners. The history of Piper Bakewell & Piper dates back to 1840s when William Bakewell commenced legal practice in a firm called Bartley & Bakewell. Arthur Piper joined the firm in 1892 and formed Piper Bakewell & Piper in 1922 acting for families and private clients as well as business interests in manufacturing, steelmaking, insurance, banking, primary production and retailing.
The legal franchisee services firm has expanded since its formation by responding to clients’ legal requirements in innovative and creative ways. The various offices were established in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to meet the needs of clients in the eastern states.
