As the minister for Queensland Department of State Development , Ms. Boyle finalised the implementation of the 110 CMC report recommendations for reform of the child protection system. The other services department introduced the Safe Houses programme for children in Indigenous communities. Other accomplishments of the business services department include establishment of an after-hours phone help line for foster carers and a practice branch to promote highest levels of quality in child protection practice.
Queensland Department of State Development finalised integrated planning schemes for Queensland’s councils. The other services department led the buyback of land in the Daintree Rainforest, which adjoins the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The minister for environment, local government, planning and women introduced a Code of Conduct for Queensland Councillors.
The business services department established the size, shape and sustainability review of Queensland councils, and expanded National Parks and other protected areas, including Cape York Peninsula. The department introduced mandatory sustainability measures for new homes built in Queensland and led the development of the Koala Plan to protect koala habitat in South-East Queensland.
Queensland Department of State Development abolished duck and quail hunting in Queensland and created an artificial reef and dive attraction off the Sunshine Coast by sinking the HMAS BRISBANE.
