Nottingham Muffin Break coffee enthusiast named Best UK Barista 2009

Muffin franchise group Muffin Break held its first UK Barista competition final on the 10th September at a Leicester Shopping Centre, where Nottingham contestant Anna Drzyster was awarded the title of Muffin Break’s Best UK Barista 2009.

Anna lives in Nottingham and is a staff member at the Nottingham Muffin Break in the Broadmarsh Centre. Anna battled against four other finalists in the competition to claim her title. The coffee connoisseurs from Grimsby, Redditch, Droitwich, Nottingham and Kilbride showed off their Barista skills to impress a panel of expert judges, including former World Barista Judge Jeremy Regan.

Jeremy comments: ‘It was a fantastic day and all the contestants gave it everything, making it a really tough choice. However, we felt that Anna went the extra mile. Her knowledge and professionalism were really impressive, and she talked us through every step demonstrating her genuine passion about coffee. A big well done to her, she really deserves it.’

As well as claiming the title of Muffin Break’s UK Best Barista 2009, Anna also won a professional La Spaziale coffee maker worth over £1,500 so she can treat her friends and family to a cup of her now famous coffee at home. 

Anna was thrilled to be awarded the prize: ‘I want to say a huge thanks to everyone who voted for and supported me. I’m really honoured to be awarded the title. I honestly never expected to win, I was happy just to show the judges how much I love coffee. The coffee maker is absolutely amazing. I always say with every cup of coffee I make I add my own special ingredient - my smile, but now I think every cup is going to come with a huge grin – I just can’t stop smiling!’
