King of Knives experiences success on the back of culinary movement
The culinary revolution has had a major resurgence in recent times proven by the popularity of shows like Master Chef, however the real winners have been the food industry in general including the King of Knives network of retail franchises.
While Kate Bracks and Michael Weldon faced off to decide the winner of Master Chef 2011, King of Knives retail franchise has been enjoying considerable sales growth.
The food movement didn’t start with Master Chef. The celebrity chef, fine dining and interest in food preparation have been on the rise for the last decade.
This culinary resurgence has been driven by a number of factors including the multicultural nature of Australian’s palette and higher earnings that allow new restaurant and travel food experiences.
While interest has also been driven by food shows such as Master Chef, My Kitchen Rules and Lifestyle Channels, more male involvement in the kitchen and the rise of the food hobbyist have also played roles.
Despite David Jones announcement in the last few weeks, that last quarter they were trading down 11% verses last year, by comparison for the same time-frame King of Knives were up 4.7% in comparable stores. In July the retail franchises were up 9%.
The Premier Group also plan to close 50 stores shortly while King of Knives are expanding and have just announced a new store opening in Tea Tree Plaza in Adelaide.
