Kieser Training Centres help reduce the back pain handicap
According to Middle Park Physiotherapist Geoffrey MacKay, almost every movement in golf involves the spine and golfers over the age of 35 may experience lower back pain or are most likely to suffer from it during or after a game.
Geoffrey MacKay is also a Director of fitness training franchise Kieser Training Centres in South Melbourne. Kieser Training have a specific strength program that has been designed specifically for golfers.
“Hitting more balls won’t fix the problem, nor will taking more lessons or buying new clubs,” he said.
MacKay continued to explain that university studies in Australia have documented that 80% of men and women over 35 experience some level of lower back pain. Taking this into consideration and the fact that the golf swing is traumatic to the body, particularly the lower back, most golfers over 35 would experience some form of back pain.
“Swinging a golf club at up to 150 kph while twisting, pulling and hitting a golf ball is not a natural movement, it puts enormous stress on the body particularly lower back, shoulder, elbow and knee muscle joints.”
Golf strength training is critical for golfers looking to avert the aggressive physical decline in both muscle strength and flexibility that occurs naturally with age.
During just two 30-minute sessions a week, Kieser Training uses specially designed Swiss machines for safe, slow movement exercise of specific muscles and joints.
Mackay, of the Kieser training franchise, continued to say that excellent results had been reported by professional and amateur golfers who have added power, flexibility and endurance to their game.
“It provides them with increased club head speed, accuracy, stamina and greater enjoyment on the course,” he said. “Most importantly, they can play pain free.”
