Just Cuts Franchising celebrates their 20 year Anniversary

The first Just Cuts Franchising hairdressing salon opened in 1990, 20 years ago, in Engadine, Sydney.

Denis McFadden, Hairdresser and CEO/Founder of the hair dressing franchise network explained, “Amazingly our first Franchisee is still with us today. Back then we created a whole new niche in the market place. There was nobody offering just a Style Cut and clients would literally fall in the door. Today due to us closing that market gap we sit between a Barber and a high end salon, so there are naturally copy cats increasing the competition”.

Just Cuts now have 174 hairdressing franchises, a 2.6% market share, and plenty of Franchisee enquiries.

Just Cuts complete more than 65,000 Style Cuts per week and employ over 1,500 stylists in Australia and New Zealand. The hairdressing franchise also has stylists at one salon in India.

Just Cuts will celebrate their 20th year with a big party to honour all the people past and present who helped them achieve what they have today. The 20th anniversary party will be held at Daltone House Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney on the 16th July, 2010.

Their average Franchise owner has 2.4 salons with some owning 4, 6 and 12 hair care franchise salons. They are mostly investors and a few have a hairdressing background.

Just Cuts vision for the future has been in the planning for the past two years and Dennis McFadden is excited to see all elements are coming together now. These include the following:

Online-Training

Just Cuts recognised with a flat fee Franchise and a small head office of seven, they need to be able to support all their stylists and Franchisees in the most effective way. The hairdressing franchise now has and on-line platform and are in the final stages of an exciting and interactive distance education tool for success that is set for release in early 2010. Training and information is vital to keep Franchisees and their teams engaged, growing and motivated.

Benchmarking

Just cuts have been using more science to measure themselves as a group and to enable Franchisees to compare their performance across the group.

Financial reporting isn’t as mandatory as they don’t work off percentages – they are just twelve haircuts a week. This method means some of hairdressing franchise owners have become independently wealthy and share a pretty good relationship with Just Cuts.

Brand

Just Cuts has a new look and feel thanks to the assistance of M&C SAATCHI and a new salon thanks to Brands in Space. They can now drop away from price and make a clear “value for money” statement about the service. Stylists and clients love the environment and the new look is a real innovation and Just Cuts have managed to upgrade and keep the fit out price the same.

New web site

Just Cuts launched their new web site in January for completion in end Feb with a new family image representing some rather quirky characters the hairdressing franchise owners refer to as “the Adams family”. It is hoped the group shot represents a cross section of society, and hence the tag-line “Style Cuts for Everybody”! Also, Just Cuts are moving to an e-marketing medium that is proving very successful and will better support Franchise Owners and their businesses via the web.

Roadshows

Just Cuts recognise that as a small team with a large group they need to reach out to the franchise community. They took trainings for Hairdressing franchise owners and their stylists to different states as a business coaching model. Just cuts were able to reward the top performers and give genuine assistance to anyone wanting to grow their business. That also became the motivator to initiate on-line support for the group and better measure their performance and productivity via Benchmarking. Overall they are performing very well with a 10% increase in 2009 despite the GFC.

Corporate vision

The vision of the hair styling franchise network has always been the goal of 200 salons, plus to continue with their Global expansion. Just Cuts have selected an advisory Board to assist in achieving this goal. Every day more than 9000 people find the easy way to look good with Just Cuts - their satisfaction is the greatest reward.
