Herbert Geer wins at ACOMM's Annual Awards Dinner

Herbert Geer has picked up another major award, taking home the prize for professional services at the 2011 ACOMM that recognise excellence in the communications industry.

The win follows a recent spate of major industry awards won by the legal firm including Best Law Firm ($50M - $200M) in the BRW Client Choice Awards 2011 and Employer of Choice in the ALB Awards 2011. The Victorian office was also named Melbourne Law Firm of the Year in the ALB Law Awards 2011.

Herbert Geer Partner, Graham Phillips, said the ACOMM win showed the dedication and commitment of the firm’s telecommunications team.

“Winning the award again is a terrific recognition of the ongoing excellence of Herbert Geer’s team,” Phillips said.

The award also recognised the law firm’s recent work in successfully representing iiNet in groundbreaking copyright infringement proceedings brought to the Federal Court by film studios and advising major players in the telecommunications industry on significant changes to legislation and industry practices.

Herbert Geer’s work and ongoing assistance in implementing IPTV projects to ISPs was also highlighted.

“New technologies give rise to novel legal issues.

“We need to think creatively in solving our clients’ problems,” Phillips said.

The award was announced at the fifth annual ACOMM Awards Dinner and is a repeat of the law firms results in 2008 when they won the same award.

The awards are the result of a partnership between Communications Alliance and Communications Day and Herbert Geer has been named as a finalist every year since 2007.
