Dymocks Supports National Year of Reading 2012
Dymocks books franchises announce their full support of the National Year of Reading 2012 to help promote reading and literacy skills amongst Australians.
The National Year of Reading 2012 is a collaboration initiative with public libraries, government bodies, community groups, media and commercial partners to help raise awareness in the importance of reading and literacy skills.
Don Grover, Dymocks CEO, encourages Australians to take part in the National Year of Reading 2012 and the activities they have on offer. The collaboration will include inspirational programs and events that would be taking place across the country, including The Reading Hour.
“Few people will argue the importance of reading, but nearly half of all Australians don’t have the literacy skills they need to meet the most basic demands to cope with everyday life and work,” said Grover.
“The statistics are clearly unacceptable, however through this collaborative effort to raise awareness of the social, educational and professional benefits of reading, we ultimately hope to see Australians enjoy the simple pleasure of reading and raise literacy standards across the country.”
More than 200 writers, publishers and organisations are partners of the National Year of Reading initiative, which includes support from Jennifer Byrne, William McInnes, Monty Boori Pryor, Anita Heiss, Bryce Courtenay, Andy Griffiths, Morris Gleitzman, Susanne Gervay, Anh Do, Ted Egan, Robyn Archer, Anna Goldsworthy, Steve Parish, Lisa Forrest and Nova Peris.
Dymocks is the key retail franchises partner of the collaboration. The National Year of Reading 2012 is planned to officially launch in February 2012.
“We’re lining up exciting programs and events to support the National Year of Reading and the The Reading Hour to inspire all Australians to instil the love of reading to last a lifetime,” said Grover.
