Demand for Protect-A-Window services is on the increase
Demand for Protect-A-Window services for temporary glass protection during the construction period of new homes is on the increase.
Scratched glass is becoming more of a worry to the cost of houses. Builders have warned aspiring new home buyers to expect a $10,000 hike in the cost of building a new house after new energy requirements agreed last week. This will be mainly due to the increased cost of glass. If this glass is scratched, it will add substantially to building costs over and above this increase. The decision to lift the standard from four or five stars to six was made at the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in Hobart last week.
The Master Builders Association of Victoria says even with careful planning, the high energy efficiency standards will cost people an average of $10,000 to build a new house. Again, if this glass is scratched in some way, then the cost will increase more.
The days of the cheaper, 3mm plate glass seem to be numbered. Of course, with more builders using the more expensive, energy efficient glass, the more demand for Protect-A-Window's product. Research conducted by the surface protection franchise chain, shows that there is a 20% to 70% chance that glass will be scratched during the building process. Even at 20%, it is cost efficient for builders to have their product protected. It is not just the cost of the glass to be replaced but also the hidden costs associated with delays in handover, glass replacement etc.
The future looks more and more promising for the building and utilites franchise group, Protect-A-Window.
