Brian Tracy Training offers their insights in becoming a better salesperson, which begins with understanding the significance of sales psychology.

Brian Tracy, a world respected leader in psychology of achievement and sales strategy, explains that many salespeople are ‘trained on the job’ and fall short due to lack of training and lack understanding on sales techniques and sales psychology.

According to Brian Tracy, in order to become a top salesperson you must do your work, study your craft, analyse your industry, gather knowledge, position yourself, look at your market, prepare yourself, prospect and make appointments.

Become a Problem Solver
A sale is only possible when a problem exists. Ultimately, when a customer makes a purchase, they are buying a solution, not the product. A salesperson would help identify the customer’s problem and then offers the solution.
A successful salesperson would be able to bridge the gap between the customer’s problem and their desired outcome. It is these gaps that give opportunities to increased productivity or decrease cost.

Prepare Your Questions
Gap analysis involves asking the right questions to help uncover the wants and needs of the customer. Gap questions are important in managing the process of a sale. It helps raise the customer’s buying desire and helps position the salesperson as a professional.
According to Brian Tracy, a salesperson should not talk about the features and benefits of their product without first understanding the gap it would potentially narrow for the customer.

Customers Buy Solutions
The role of the salesperson is to help identify the customer’s problems and needs. A salesperson should have good product and industry knowledge to help identify these gaps and provide the solution through products and services.
A salesperson should build a list of questions and sequence them from general to specific in order to help customers understand how the product would benefit them.

Know Your Product and Industry
Salespeople should also be aware of the changes in different market sectors, such as the rise of internet shopping. Businesses and sales people that do not recognise these growing trends would find themselves missing a lot of opportunities.

Best Salespeople use Gap Analysis
A salesperson’s role is to help expose the source of a customer’s problems and offer the solution. A successful salesperson would use gap analysis to show their clients how their product can narrow the gap between their desired outcome and the problem.
According to Brian Tracy, the technique of gap analysis is an important element of a successful sales strategy.
