Beard Papa
We offer a variety of gourmet desserts, all of which are natural - no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours. We make all products on site in front of the customer.
How old is the company and when did you start franchising?
Beard Papa Sweets was founded in 1999 in Japan. The first Australian store opened its doors in March 2006. We began franchising in April 2007.
How many franchises do you have?
Over 300 stores worldwide, four stores within Australia.
How are you going to grow the business in 2008?
We have adopted a steady growth strategy for 2008 with eight stores planned to open throughout the east coast of Australia. We believe that a conservative approach initially will allow us to work with our franchisees more closely to ensure stronger sales growth and increased profit margins
Where do you expect the business to be in 2010?
By 2010, it is expected that our group will have 30 stores nationally and be recognized as a market leader in gourmet desserts and franchising.
What do you expect from a franchisee?
Passion, dedication and motivation. We expect our franchisees to be as passionate about our brand as we are, with a drive for success.
What are the start-up costs for a franchisee and what working capital should they have?
Our stores range from $200,000 plus for a turnkey operation with an average store opening at $250,000.
What is the length of agreement?
The length of our agreement is 5 years.
What sort of hours will the franchisee have to work to get the business established and how long should that take?
Ideally, 45 to 60 hours per week initially. The demand for our products when we open is astounding. Once the team has settled into the operation it should easily be adjusted to 40 hours.
What profit can a franchisee reasonably expect to make after two years?
Working directly in the business a franchisee can expect to make more than $100,000 a year.
