Battery World battery retail franchises go green with Community Recycling Program
Battery World Australia now offers domestic battery users a simple and safe way to dispose of their dead batteries through their Battery World Community Recycling Program.
Over 8,000 tonnes of dead batteries go into Australian landfills each year, which considering their harmful components, makes them one of the most dangerous common wastes discarded by Australian households.
Batteries are made from heavy metals and harmful elements, such as nickel, cadmium, lead and mercury, all of which can pollute soil and water harming wildlife and posing a threat to humans.
There is currently no government legislation forcing battery manufacturers and retailers to participate in the responsible disposal of batteries, and there is no significant funding or incentive for them to do so.
Since the Battery World Community Recycling Program was initiated, approximately 500 tonnes of batteries have already been saved from entering landfills, enough to fill the Sydney Cricket Ground 10 times over.
To find out more about responsible battery disposal visit one of the many local Batter World battery retail franchises.
