Australians are buying into harmful mattresses
According to Beds for Backs Franchising , research has revealed that majority of Australians are sleeping on a bed that doesn’t provide them the right support, which then results in a range of serious and ongoing health problems.
Beds for Backs Managing Director, Mario Piraino, said sleeping in the wrong bed can lead to poor circulation, interrupted breathing and snorting and, the most common problem, acute back, shoulder and neck pain.
“Leading international bedding manufacturers have been convincing consumers for decades that their mattresses are ergonomically designed by having beds endorsed by professional health bodies or labelled as orthopaedic, and it simply can’t be true,” said Piraino.
Piraino has helped thousands of people of all ages, shapes and sizes test various beds. He has discovered that the supportive capabilities of modern mattresses are not much better than those of the 1950s.
“Leading bedding manufacturers do not use different supportive springs, they simply alter the thickness of the foam to ‘soft’, ‘medium’ or ‘firm’ to provide a different ‘feel’ which hardly distinguishes differences in weight and does not distinguish at all for body shape,” he said.
“The technology they are using is ancient, and terms they use to describe their mattresses are highly misleading.”
According to Piraino, customers are spending an average of $7,000 to $10,000 on a luxury bed, which is one of the bedding industry’s biggest rip offs.
“Quite often people with ongoing health concerns will seek out the most expensive bed with the misled belief that it will provide the best solution for their problems, which can end up being a bigger pain in the neck both physically and financially,” he said.
“In most cases, we have been able to find the perfect bed based on a customer’s needs for between $2,000 and $4,000 with our personalised approach.”
Mario Piraino has an extensive career in sales for some of the leading bedding manufacturers, as well as a degree in engineering and personal acute back problems. Piraino devised the Beds for Back’s sleep science, which supports the human body correctly using proven engineering principles.
“We are heaviest at our narrowest area (waist) and lighter in body mass at our widest area (shoulders) so it makes very simple sense to design a bed that is adjustable along the body as our weight and shape changes,” he said.
Beds for Backs patented bed design has been proven to provide improved rest, health and wellbeing for thousands of happy customers. The bedding franchises currently offer more than 386 bed combinations to suit any body type including the fussiest sleepers.
“Our consultative process ensures customers are buying a bed that can be personalised to optimise sleep comfort and overall health and well-being. We take into account all the health concerns and comfort preferences of each customer including weight, shape, age, injuries, sleep issues such as partner disturbance, and snoring,” he said.
“For a mattress to support the human body without stress and strain, its support features must reflect the weight and shape variation of the body. It’s simple sleep science.”
