Supanews is Australia’s leading Newsagency retailer and Australia’s only business model for the newsagency industry. The Supanews business model provides a strong brand, a proven system of operation and a strong retail concept. Supanews’ systems and controls make the operation of a newsagency easier than ever before.

The first Supanews store was opened by Adrian Gaskin in 1992 in Aspley, Queensland. The success of this business allowed him to open more stores and Supanews became a market leader, and the largest privately owned newsagency chain in Australia. Supanews launched their business model franchise in 2004. Supanews now has 18 franchisees and 41 stores. It is envisaged that by the end of 2008, Supanews will grow to 60 stores and serve over 15 million customers per year.

Supanews has reinvented the newsagency. Supanews has developed a unique business model that brings greater retail expertise and professionalism to a disorganized, yet lucrative industry. The Supanews business model provides a strong brand, a proven system of operation and a strong retail concept. Supanews’ systems and controls make the operation of a newsagency easier than ever before.

Supanews is committed to becoming a great retailer and being the destination of choice for magazines, greeting cards and stationery. Stores are typically found within high traffic locations, including busy shopping centres. Supanews is the largest business of its type in Australia and this means better buying power and improved profitability for franchisees.

Training Provided

Each new franchisee will undergo a thorough training program to ensure that when the doors open for the first time the franchisee has the capabilities and confidence to operate their store.

All franchisees must attend a comprehensive in house training program that provides participants with all the necessary skills to operate their Supanews business. This program caters for all franchisees, including those with no previous retail experience.

Training encompasses time in a classroom where retail theory and Supanews systems and procedures are fully explained. Training also has a high practical component, with a lot of time spent in real stores working on the practical application of the theories and procedures covered in the classroom.

Training is designed to ensure that franchisees feel completely at ease with the business before their own store opens.

The Supanews Difference

As a specialist, Supanews is in business to provide customers with the best advice, products, and services to meet their magazine, greeting card and stationery needs.

As Australia’s premier newsagency retailer, Supanews stores differentiate themselves from other newsagencies in the following ways:

  • Supanews is a specialist retailer

  • - Magazines – Where space permits we sell most magazines in Australian circulation, including an extensive international range of magazines.
    - Stationery – Stores carry a large and comprehensive range of stationery products including discounted demand lines for the home, school and office.
    - Greeting Cards – Supanews carries a complete range of cards including boutique card ranges usually featured at the entry of the store.

  • Retail only - Supanews stores are retail only. No home deliveries means no 4:00AM starts!

  • Supanews leverages its customer driving products like magazines and lotteries to drive better margin products sales like greeting cards, impulse lines and stationery.

  • Aggressive pricing – Supanews' superior buying power allows the group to get better profit margins while offering our customers great value for money.

  • Exclusive offers and promotions – Supanews leverages it strong supplier arrangements and collective buying power to access unique offerings and value deals across product ranges.

  • Superior retail environments - Supanews stores are designed to be customer friendly and a true shopping experience. Our stores are spacious, easy to navigate, bright and clean.

  • A strong & recognised brand – Supanews is a proven brand, supported by a common corporate image, store layout, planograms and marketing initiatives.

  • Excellent customer service - All Supanews staff and management follow a simple motto: “The customer always comes first, second and third”. Supanews spends considerable time training and monitoring service standards to ensure they are exceptionally high.

  • Leadership – Supanews has developed systems that ensure that time is spent on building the business rather than maintaining the business. These differences have established Supanews as a market leader; a destination retailer capable of generating retail excitement and substantial sales.
