Background
Fellas Gifts was founded in November 2000 with the first store being only 80
square metres opening at Westfield Marion in June 2001. It was an immediate
success and within twelve months it was obvious a larger store was required. In
September 2002 Fellas Gifts moved nearby to a 130 square metre store and
incorporated many improvements into their shopfit, layout and design.
The first franchised store opened in Brisbane at Westfield Garden City in
November 2004 followed by Westfield Tea Tree Plaza in Adelaide later the same
month.
Franchisor Monitoring
Monitoring of the performance of the franchisees sales, purchases and stock
holding is carried out by the franchisor using specifically designed 'Fellas
Connect' software. The low on-going franchise fee of 3% is a direct consequence
of the sophisticated software and remote monitoring ability of the franchisor.
Franchisees are provided with a Fellas Gifts Newsletter every month detailing
the top 100/500 best sellers throughout the group. The newsletter also includes
sales results for each store and any other points of interest.
Products & Suppliers
Each new Fellas Gifts store commences with a recommended stock holding prepared
by the franchisor and based on the national sales of the most popular items.
After the franchisee has become more familiar with their own sales and customer
requirements they are able to 'fine tune' their product mix. The franchisee is
required to stock 80% of the core range and up to 20% of their own product
selection. The franchisor monitors the sales of new stock lines and reports on
the top 100/500 via their newsletter.
Fellas Gifts offers the consumer an extensive range of products from over 150
suppliers. These suppliers and their product range are selected by personal
attendance to the franchisee by local supplier representatives or by the
franchisee attending bi-annual Gift Fairs in Melbourne and Sydney.
As the franchise business grows the franchisor is constantly approaching
suppliers for additional group volume discounts or rebates from the suppliers.
Any such discounts or rebates are reflected straight off the invoiced price. The
franchisor receives or retains no discounts or rebates on franchisee purchases
from Fellas Gifts suppliers.
Although Fellas Gifts now offers the consumer a very wide range of products
Helen & Brian are continually seeking out new suppliers and introducing new
products to compliment their core range.
