Ecowash franchisee scoops award crown

Sarah Stowe

Ben Edwards, franchisee of the Townsville ecowash, has been hailed 2008 Australian Franchisee of the Year. At just 24 years old, Edwards beat 50 other Australian franchises operating in 14 countries. Since opening his waterless ecowash franchise in April 2006, Edwards has made a booming business, cleaning 45 to 50 cars per week.

Edwards believes it is both the environmental benefit, but also his high standards, that are the key to his success. ”The key for me has been the repeat business. Local customers initially tried my services from an environmental standpoint, but have remained customers because of the quality of the finished job.”

Ecowash managing director Jim Cornish has nothing but praise for the winning franchisee. “Ben’s energy and attitude, his work ethic and aptitude towards generating new business is outstanding and having someone like him represent us is great for our brand.”

Edwards believes that the franchise system in place is one of the best, due to small overheads and high profits. “The earning potential of the business is ridiculously good. Start up costs are extremely cheap and your profit margins once you are up and running are unbelievable.”

He continued, “The marketing support is fantastic and the cars just stand out so much. The letterheads, business cards, everything is immaculately done.” And it seems Edwards has no intention of resting on his laurels after winning this award. “I am at capacity and can’t take on much more work – so now it is time to expand.”
