Worldwide recognition for ECU’s Designers
Graduating Graphic Design students at Edith Cowan University had stylish business cards to give out to prospective employers at their final exhibition on November 27 – thanks to Worldwide Online Printing .
This is the first year that printing and copying franchise has been involved in sponsoring the graduating ECU Graphic Design class, through printing business cards for the students and sponsoring three excellence awards for rising stars in the group.
“Worldwide has over 80 print and design centres across Australia, and employs around 160 designers,” said Worldwide National Trainer Ron Woodbine, who presented the Worldwide Online Printing student excellence awards at the exhibition opening.
Ron also presented a tutorial to students during semester on how to professionally design their own business cards.
“We really value great design and believe that industry should be looking here for the future of design.”
"I was impressed with the high standard of design shown by the ECU graphic design students for 2008,” added Ron.
“This group of students really understand typography; it's refreshing to see this level of comprehension in these latest ECU graduates."
36 of the students designed their own business cards, which were then printed by Worldwide Online Printing business services franchise in Morley. Worldwide Morley owner Jeremy Lloyd assisted the class in getting their designs just right for printing.
“They’ve turned out really well,” said Jeremy. “They’ll really impress prospective employers.”
ECU graphic design course coordinator Adam Newcombe added that, “It’s the first time we’ve gone with Worldwide for our printing and we’re very happy with the results.”
“Jeremy and the team at Worldwide Morley were terrific. They understood during the process that these are students and that sometimes mistakes are made or things need to be changed to get it right.”
“Ron originally came to me saying that Worldwide was keen to engage with educational institutions through sponsorship,” explained Adam.
“It’s all about educating young designers within the corporate body, and I think it’s just a fabulous way for industry to engage with what we do.”
The top achievers in graphic designer over the three year course were rewarded with book vouchers and certificates from the digital printing franchise. The winners were: Carl Mobilia (Worldwide Online Printing Top Student Award), Bill Micevski (Worldwide Online Printing Rising Star Award) and Jadwiga Daley-Thompson (Worldwide Online Printing Developing Designer Award).
“Carl [winner of the Worldwide Online Printing Top Student Award] is probably one of the best students I’ve ever had – a talented natural designer and a hard worker.”
