On May 16, Workout World Blacktown’s Jason Scerri gets his gloves on for Muay Thai competition.

When local business owner, Jason Scerri from Workout World, Australia’s largest fitness equipment retail franchise, isn’t finding workout equipment to suit his customer’s needs he is training tirelessly to become a Muay Thai kickboxing champion.

On Friday May 16, Jason will put his years of training experience to the test at the Numero Uno show at Penrith Panthers.

A passionate advocate of the need for regular physical exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, Jason, aged 25, has been training in Muay Thai kickboxing for six years and is ranked sixth in Australia in the middleweight category. His passion for kickboxing sees him training two hours a day, five nights a week. Ultimately, Jason wants to become a middleweight world title holder.

"Regardless of whether I am competing or training kickboxing is a great way to keep fit and healthy and it helps me meet my fitness goals, in conjunction with a structured workout," he said.

"I love the extreme challenge that kickboxing offers and I believe the competition events I participate in provide you with a real test of just how strong you can be," Jason said. "Ever since I first started Muay Thai kickboxing I’ve been addicted to the intensity of the sport – it’s become my passion.

"My goals for the future are to succeed in the health and fitness industry and to further my fighting career. Down the track I’d love to own a training studio and teach people how to fight and protect themselves."

When he’s on the shop floor of Workout World sports and fitness franchise, Jason finds it highly rewarding to help motivate customers and help them reach their personal fitness goals, tailoring fitness equipment to their individual lifestyle and financial requirements.

"Many Australians are now recognising how affordable it is to train in the comfort and security of their own home," he said. "Australians are becoming more aware of how being physically active is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Workout World has a great range of fitness equipment to help keep Australians on track with their personal fitness goals."

"Our stores also have fully trained in-house service technicians giving customers the support they need, should they encounter any challenges with their equipment – for greater peace of mind."

Jason said he is proud to sell his customers only quality, durable fitness equipment – equipment which is delivering proven results every day, as seen in The Biggest Loser house on Network Ten. Workout World is the exclusive fitness equipment supplier to The Biggest Loser.

"At Workout World at Blacktown we take great care to provide locals with a large range of quality fitness equipment coupled with our leading service and after sales support, giving our customers peace of mind."

Jason added: "Our staff are reputable, fully trained fitness equipment specialists who can guide customers through their purchase process…we understand purchasing fitness equipment is a major buying decision for Australians and we are committed to service excellence."

Jason’s top tips for buying fitness equipment for the home:
  • Buy ergonomically correct equipment that has been engineered to work naturally with your body.
  • Ensure you keep a good balance of cardio and strength training in your workout.
  • Always look for products with generous warranty support, for peace of mind.
  • Choose a fitness equipment retailer who can qualify your individual financial and lifestyle needs as well as tailoring products to your fitness goals.
  • Ensure you buy fitness equipment with your long term fitness goals in mind: that your equipment will meet your training needs now and in the future.

About Muay Thai kickboxing

Muay Thai began as a close combat battlefield fighting skill. It was more deadly than the weapons it replaced. There are two main theories about the evolution of Muay Thai: One says that the art developed as the Thai people moved down from China; honed in the struggle for land. The other theory says that the Thai people were already here and that Muay Thai developed to defend the land and people from constant invasion threats. Today, Muay Thai is ruled, codified and now with five three minute rounds, each with a two minute recovery period between rounds. It now has its enthusiasts and practitioners in the Americas, Australia, Japan, Europe, as well as in many other countries around the world.
