Evolution of the Uticolor in the car repairs industry
by
Uticolor
Since the 1950s, Keith Smith worked in the fibreglass manufacturing industry, when he and another partner created Australia’s first fibreglass tanks, boats and tractor cabins, amongst many others. With the new process of the Uticolor franchise, Keith began to build the business by providing vinyl welding and repairs. As huge amounts of vinyl were required to be used in those days, the automotive services franchise witnessed rapid growth.
Soon after, Uticolor repairers started to work as mobile units in most capital cities across Australia. These early repairers requested to regulate the structure to secure trade in their industry. Therefore, Keith started to adopt a franchising concept to expand and manage business, rather than following the lead of America and Japan with their sales-orientated trading. Within a short span of time, Uticolor in Japan and USA had ceased to trade in Australia. 26.10.2007
