Owning my own business allows me to see the reward for the effort I put in. Customers appreciate that they are being served by the owner and you quickly develop relationships with your regular customers. I like the flexibility business ownership offers to take a mini break when I need it and also to help develop solid working skills for my staff.
Favourite thing about owning a business
Clement Maung – Franchisee of Urban Burger Salisbury, Queensland
“To me, it is more than just the financial gains. When I see staff members who are happy to be at work and take pride in what they do, and the customers who are satisfied and rave about our great products and service, it is the sense of personal achievement and satisfaction of seeing the efforts I put in come in to fruition. That will be my favourite thing about owning a business.”
David Kenny – Franchisee of Urban Burger North Melbourne, Victoria

Why you chose an Urban Burger franchise?
Clement Maung – Franchisee of Urban Burger Salisbury, Queensland
“As a small business operator, factors such as present profitability and long term growth potential of a business would be the decisive factors choosing the right franchise. Using my many years of experience as a manager under various franchises in this industry, I compared different franchises as a potential suitor for my first ever business venture. Urban burger ticked most of the boxes in terms of operation of the store, support from the franchisor, feedback from the customers and competitive edge in the market. Therefore, I chose the Urban Burger franchise.”
David Kenny – Franchisee of Urban Burger North Melbourne, Victoria
“I joined Urban Burger in its early days. I saw this as an opportunity to be a part of the growth and development of the company. The concept and product are clearly going to remain for the long term and not be a quick food fad. Great tasting burgers also appeal to me and I believe you must stand behind the products you sell.”
How easy was it to get started?
Clement Maung – Franchisee of Urban Burger Salisbury, Queensland
“The support from Urban Burger head office was there from day one. Being my first business I was unfamiliar with the process involved in purchasing a business (paper work, legality, financials, etc.), but all the questions I had were answered promptly throughout the process, good communication was always there, and in no time I found myself being a proud franchisee of Urban Burger Salisbury.”
David Kenny – Franchisee of Urban Burger North Melbourne, Victoria
“My background has both cooking and sales experience, this has been a great help personally to set me up with the skills of running my own business . I would say though that this is not essential, if you have the drive and mind to operate your own business you could successfully run your own store with the training and support on hand.”
Comments on your lifestyle as a business owner?
Clement Maung – Franchisee of Urban Burger Salisbury, Queensland
“The simplicity of operational procedures and system leads to the relative ease in delegating to staff members. Now that the staff members are trained up to the required standards, I have plenty of time to do plenty of other things. Despite the store trading 12 hours a day and 7 days a week, within the first six months, I went overseas twice for my vacation and I found myself occasionally at the beach and movies during weekdays!”
David Kenny – Franchisee of Urban Burger North Melbourne, Victoria
“Running a small business takes up a good deal of your thoughts through the day. Being on hand most days is important especially at the beginning of starting your business. Over time I have allowed myself more time to balance my lifestyle. I enjoy riding my motorbikes and cycling regularly and with today’s technology I can keep an eye on the business even when I'm on the other side of the world.”
