Your people are your greatest resource...sometimes!
In short, I don't believe that all your people are your best resource (a few of them will never be a good resource!), but what I do believe is that some of your people are your best resource and that these people are the ones who are most aware of and who fully utilise their stengths, as well as those who get on well, and work well with others.
The good news is that you can help more of your people do this and as a result, help more of them become exceptional performers!
Turn your people into exceptional performers
by Dr. Timothy Sharp
Some of you may have heard of the concept of servant leadership; well here at The Happiness Institute we talk about "supportive leadership".
This new phrase stems from the SUPPORT model I developed a few years ago, a model that we've used with great effect in all types of relationships including those important ones in the workplace.
Because these PEP-ups are supposed to be short and sweet I'm only going to focus on two components within the model but these are, arguably, the most important for creating exceptional performers and high-energy teams.
First, the best performers are allowed to be their best each and every day; they know their strengths and they are given every opportunity to develop and use them. If you click on the link above you'll also find two free resources summarising (1) a list of signature strengths and (2) some strategies for utilising these strengths in your personal and working lives.
Second, the best performers recognise and appreciate strengths in others; exceptional people don't work in a vacuum but rather, they interact and communicate effectively with those around them. This is largely what great teams do; they collaborate and interact in a way such that the total is far greater than the sum of individual parts.
So the message in this mailing is to find ways to allow your best people to be better by finding ways to allow all your people to use their strengths. Those who utilise their strengths are happier and more productive; others want to be with and to work with them; and they also deal with adversity far more effectively. What's not to like about all that?
