Feedback from The Happiness Diet group coaching program
The Happiness Institute are in the midst of their first Happiness Diet group coaching program and also have quite a few people working their way through the online version of the course which has also proved to be quite popular.
Subsequently, the designer of the course, Professor Tim Sharp, has been talking to many people about the positive psychology coaching approach to weight management and has gained an even clearer understanding of what is working as well as what differentiates The Happiness Diet from other approaches to weight loss.
Professor Sharp has been able to find out what parts of his diet the participants have found really motivating and helpful. In particular, they have reported that the strong focus on strengths and what works rather than on weaknesses and failures is a great component.
The very specific emphasis on living a great life and creating positivity first and foremost, and using this positive energy to energise action also resonated deeply with many participants who believed it would increase the likelihood of doing the hard work necessary to lose weight and make changes.
Powerful principles of psychology and human behaviour lead to a greater understanding of self and motivation, which is often lacking in other programs that just focus on counting kilojoules or measuring exercise output, and has also given people in the group a certain insight that they have found incredibly valuable.
Finally, participants really like the incorporation of positive reinforcement and appropriate rewards which are often in stark contrast to the self-critical and punitive approaches of many diets that have been used in the past.
The Happiness Institute have found that people are loving the positive approach, which is not just based on ‘rah-rah’ motivational pop psychology but rather grounded in the science of positive psychology which is at the heart of The Happiness Diet.
