Government moratorium on franchise law backed by The Franchise Shop franchise consultants
Minister for Small Business, Senator Nick Sherry’s recent comments at the Franchise Council of Australia’s national conference have been welcomed by The Franchise Shop 's franchise consultants.
Speaking at the annual conference, this year held on the Gold Coast, Senator Sherry addressed recent changes to the Franchise Code of Conduct, and moved to reassure the sector that the Government would allow ample time for these changes to take effect.
“All these changes are comprehensive. Given this, the Government believes the amendments need sufficient time in operation to allow their effectiveness to be evaluated. To do this, and to provide the sector with the stability and confidence it deserves, the Government doesn’t intend to review the code again before 2013,” he said.
Grant Garraway, Senior Franchise Consultant at The Franchise Shop, agrees with the comments.
“The Government needs support for this decision. The business community is quick to criticise many Government decisions, but on this occasion they are entitled to our support,” he says.
He adds that “the franchise sector is already heavily regulated and needs time to fully absorb and implement the recent changes.”
