Supanews newsagency franchises partner with Ovarian Cancer Australia for Mother's Day
For the second consecutive year, newsagency franchise, Supanews will partner with Ovarian Cancer Australia over Mother’s Day. The pair will join forces to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer during the Mother’s Day 2011 season.
The newsagency franchise will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Mother’s Day cards to support the charity’s work to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer and provide information and support services to those suffering with the illness and their families.
On average, three Australian women a day are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and two die because of the disease. Despite popular opinion, pap smears do not detect ovarian cancer and there is no early detection test. Approximately 75% of women diagnosed are at an advanced stage where the cancer has spread and treatment may not provide a cure.
Therefore, education of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, for early detection and seeking medical support, is a critical endeavour. Ovarian Cancer Australia works to raise awareness of the symptoms to improve outcomes for women diagnosed, and provides information and support to improve quality of life for women living with ovarian cancer.
They have support programs and practical resources that provide women with the information they need and the opportunity to discuss common issues, share stories, and receive emotional support to help them cope with diagnosis and treatment.
Supanews newsagency franchise Retail Managing Director, Adrian Gaskin, said: “We at Supanews are proud to support a cause that has such a strong focus on the human element.
"Knowing that the money Supanews raises will be used for a practical purpose by Ovarian Cancer Australia in improving the lives of ovarian cancer patients and their families is very satisfying.”
Ovarian Cancer Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation and the peak body for ovarian cancer awareness and prevention in Australia. They provide compassionate support programs and advocacy for women affected by ovarian cancer, as well as their families, friends and carers.
By purchasing a Mother’s Day card at Supanews newsagency franchises, a portion of each customer’s purchase will go to Ovarian Cancer Australia.
