Franchising with Supanews

Andrew Pedley bought his Mt Druitt franchise in NSW in 2005. Owning his own business was a life ambition for Andrew, although he previously thought owning a newsagency would be beyond his capabilities.
“I worked in IT for 19 years and enjoyed most of my career, but towards the end I was looking for something more - something I could say I built for myself with hard work.
“When I started looking at businesses I didn’t think that buying a newsagency would be achievable, until I saw the opportunity at Supanews, looked at the proposition, and it just felt right.”
“It is thanks to the support we have received from the Supanews retail franchise that the business has grown to where it is. “Supanews provides assistance, whether it be answering a simple question about an operational matter, or instigating a change in available product. They’re always quick to answer any questions or address required changes.
“Running any newsagency is hard work, and owning a Supanews newsagency is no different in that regard. You get out of it what you are prepared to put in. Supanews have processes that help you run your business efficiently, meaning you don’t waste time on unnecessary matters.
“I always feel like there is back-up if I need help. Supanews is there and willing to ensure I have every chance to make a success of my business. Supanews also brings something that most independent newsagents don’t have access to - group buying power and supplier funded promotions, both of which drive sales growth.
“If you’re keen to own your own business, franchising is definitely a good introduction. The formula has already been tried and tested with the systems, procedures and strategies available to you,” says Andrew.
Andrew recommends that prospective franchisees conduct much research before deciding on purchasing a business: “Talk to some existing franchisees so you understand what to expect. Make sure you are prepared to put in the hours and have sufficient funding for initial working capital after your purchase.
“It’s hard work, but very rewarding. I love being a part of the local community and hearing feedback from our customers. It’s important to get a buzz from what you do. Ruth and I are very proud of what we have achieved as Supanews franchisees.”
