Slater & Gordon is an Australian legal services firm that traces its history back to 1935. The legal advice business was founded by William Slater and Hugh Gordon to serve the needs of unions and their members, with an emphasis on worker’s compensation. The first branch offices of the legal franchisee services firm were opened in Victoria’s Latrobe valley and Carlton suburbs in Melbourne and the law firm currently has offices throughout the length and breadth of the country.
The legal franchisee services firm completed the acquisitions of Geoffrey Edwards & Co, Maurice May & Co, Reid & Reid, Gary Robb & Associates) and Paul J Keady & Associates during the 2005-2006 period. The legal advice business got its name listed on the Australian Stock Exchange to finance acquisitions and mergers as the first Australian firm to accomplish the fete. The acquisition of D’Arcys Solicitors, specialising in military compensation, gives Slater and Gordon greater involvement and leading position in national compensation areas of military compensation and Comcare.
Slater & Gordon’s national practice group is currently lead by principal lawyer of D’Arcy solicitors Vince Green. The largest acquisition of the legal advice business was made in Septmber 2007 with McClellands Lawyers specialising in personal injury litigation.
