Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill adds new street taco range to its menu

Sarah Stowe

From 13 February Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill customers can enjoy a new menu offering, street tacos.

The tacos are inspired by traditional street vendors in Mexico and the first hand experiences of the company’s general manager, Brett Carman when he travelled the Baja Coast from LA to Mexico last year.

Three new range comprises four different flavours:

  • Canitas – slow cooked pork with pineapple and mango salsa, lime juice and coriander.
  • Chicken chipotle – grilled chicken with chipotle salsa, salsa fresco (chopped tomato, coriander and red onion) and guacamole.
  • Habanero steak – grilled steak with black beans, habanero salsa, coriander and red cabbage.
  • Black bean and guacamole – this vegetarian option contains black beans, broccoli and zucchini and it is served with chipotle salsa and topped with guacamole.

Each of the four varieties is available gluten free upon request.

Carman explains street tacos play an important role in Mexican cuisine.

“Street tacos are considered the heart and soul of Mexico’s varied cuisine, enjoyed by people from all walks of life,” he said.

“Traditionally sold by street vendors, they are small in size and meant to be eaten as a snack or a few make up a light meal.”

The new range is kind to the waistline, with each variety containing less than 837 kilojoules.
