Adelaide Price Attack hair care franchises spell financial success for Simon Finlay
Simon Finlay was looking for financial prosperity and self sufficiency when he decided to joined Price Attack ’s network of hair care franchises, and late last year that dream came to fruition when he built a holiday house for his young family.
Now owners of three hair care franchises, Simon and Leanne Finlay are strong advocates for the Price Attack hair care brand. They bought their first store in Adelaide’s Tea Tree Plaza on July 4, 1994.
At the time, they both worked in the banking sector, and were feeling the pressure of a somewhat turbulent finance industry.
“We didn’t have job security in our everyday working lives, which prompted Leanne and I to consider entering the business realm ourselves,” Simon explains.
Price Attack hair care franchises were the logical choice for the couple, who grew up in Adelaide and hence had the intelligence of the market behind them, “plus sound financial advice from an accountant” they knew.
It took some adjusting in the early years, Simon admits, but now he has business-ownership flexibility.
“We don’t need to ask a boss for time off to watch our kids play sport or attend that special school presentation – but rather we are the decision makers and can manage our workload and meet our priorities at any particular time,” he says.
Simon and Leanne now employ 26 staff, and recently completed a new fit-out of one of their Price Attack hair care franchises, in Casuarina Square. The biggest challenge in retail, they admit, is staffing.
“Any new franchise needs to understand that everyone’s standards are different, and that there needs to be shared leadership and common passion for the store shown in the staff recruitment process,” Simon adds.
The franchise realm, he says, is ideally suited to someone who loves variety in their day and playing a hands-on role in the business - both with employees and even more-so in franchisee and store manager roles.
At his hair care franchises, Simon notes that “one minute I’m playing HR honcho, the next I’m a buyer making decisions on what my clientele might like, and then on the way out to meet the delivery truck I’m a cleaner wiping down shelving and ensuring the merchandise is presently nicely.”
There is never a dull moment, he says, or a day when he is not learning new things or trying to better the way he operates his business.
“It’s like five jobs rolled into one, where I’m actively involved in the everyday operations and multi-skilled in every aspect of the game,” he concludes.
