Pacnet invest in new Data Landing Station (DLS) in Hong Kong
As part of Pacnet ’s Digital 21 strategy to expand its hosting and co-location infrastructure across Asia-Pacific, the company has announced their latest investment into a new Data Landing Station (DLS) in Hong Kong, with direct high-speed connectivity into Pacnet’s pan-Asian subsea cable network.
"We are building this capability in Hong Kong to serve Asia's growing appetite for cloud services.
“More enterprises are tapping into the cloud paradigm to realize economies of scale as they expand across the region, and Hong Kong is well-positioned as a data center hub to support this," said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer of Pacnet.
"The new DLS will extend Pacnet's technological leadership in IP services, as the accelerating adoption of cloud and the unprecedented boom in digital content drive up demand for data center resources in Asia Pacific."
According to a recent Gartner report, data centers and web hosting in the Asia Pacific market will hit $4.5 billion by 2015, increasing at a CAGR of 14.3% from $2 billion in 2010. The report also noted that an increase in the volume of demand and a move toward higher-quality data center facilities will drive the growth of managed hosting services.
"The growth of hosting services continues in Asia Pacific.
“Enterprises are demanding more data center capacity, space and racks to support their business expansion in the region," wrote Vincent Fu, Principal Research Analyst of Gartner, in the report.
He added that following the earthquakes in Japan, this has “pushed some Japanese companies to seek alternative disaster recovery sites outside of the country, which will create more hosting demand in Asia Pacific".
The new data centre is located next to Pacnet’s Cable Landing Station (CLS) to meet customer demands for high-speed connectivity and network redundancy to support increased business demands. The move also facilitates reliable and energy efficient hosting and network infrastructures for the shift towards cloud services.
The Pacnet Hong Kong Data Landing Station will be the first facility of its kind in Hong Kong to attain the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, an internationally recognized certification program for meeting rigorous green building performance standards.
It is slated for completion by December 2011.
