Pacific Internet first launched the Pacific Internet Broadband Barometer report in July 2003 and it showed a remarkable jump in usage of broadband technology among Australian small and medium businesses (SMBs). It's important to take stock of how other businesses use new technology, to make sure you're staying competitive, and taking advantage of all the tools and cost efficiencies available. What the 2005 Pacific Internet Broadband Barometer shows us, is that businesses using broadband are benefiting from more than just a faster and reliable service. Use of broadband is delivering real value, by helping them grow revenues and reduce costs.

Broadband usage has become ubiquitous, with 77% of Internet enabled SMBs now connected. Competitive broadband access prices and greater awareness of its benefits is driving SMBs to upgrade from slower and less reliable dial-up services. The number of dial-up connections has halved from 55% in 2004 to 27% now.
