First Oporto fast food franchise to open in China
Oporto Franchising is preparing to open the first of its fast food franchises in China this month. Expansion into the city of Xiamen gives Oporto access to a fast food market expected to hit more than $US60 billion in 2010.
With a rapidly emerging middle class population, a growing enthusiasm for dining out and surging disposable income, the fast food industry in China is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. Fast food franchises will continue to grow in coming years.
For the expansion into China, Oporto is using a master franchiser, selected following an involved and vigorous selection process.
“It’s important that they understand the values and appeal of the brand, have the right contacts and understand the local market,” says CEO, Jeff Fisher.
This continued overseas expansion comes on the heels of strong growth in 2009. Last year also saw overhaul of the chicken franchise brand, which Fisher explains was designed to both bring Oporto closer to its Bondi roots, as well as to make the brand more ‘portable’ for expansion into other states and countries.
