Mrs. Fields Gourmet Cookies franchises support Vinnies CEO Sleepout
Andrew Benefield, Managing Director for Mrs. Fields Gourmet Cookies franchises, slept on the streets on 16 June as a part of Vinnies CEO Sleepout; Rise to the Challenge, which aims to raise awareness and funds for the plight of the homeless in Australia.
Benefield spent one night on his own piece of cardboard hoping to raise awareness and woke the next morning to have a newfound gratitude for what we all take for granted every night.
“In raising money for this cause it signifies to realise what so many Australians don’t have.
“The cause resonated with me a few years ago with a few of our key stores located in areas where homelessness is very prevalent.
“There are over 100 000 Australians homeless and growing, the money can help benefit those who need assistance and provide access to the services they need,” said Benefield.
Vinnies started the CEO Sleepout in 2006 to raise funds for Vinnies Homeless Services around Australia. Money raised has supported the expansion of the not-for-profit organisation’s projects relating to crisis accommodation, domestic violence, life counselling, legal advice and education.
In 2010, the Sleepout raised $2.9M and attracted almost 700 CEOs from around Australia. Donations are still open for the challenge in 2011 with the gourmet cookies franchises hoping to top the previous year’s results.
“Doing the Winter Sleepout is also an important way integrate corporate responsibility and giving back to the community, not only in the Mrs. Fields family but also as a great challenge to fellow CEOs across Australia,” Benefield said.
